Melting Snowball

Spring is right around the corner--hooray!  To celebrate, I'm sharing a tension-releasing relaxation technique with a timely theme: Melting Snowball.

 

Have the kids prepare for savasana by curling up into a tightly-packed snowball. From this position, guide them through the following sequence:

  • Breathe in, feeling the warmth of the sunlight as it enters your body.  Breathe out, feeling your body begin to melt like the snow.
  • Focus only on your head.  Breathe in the warmth of the sunlight.  Breathe out, letting your head melt back into the ground.
  • Squeeze your legs into your chest.  Breathe in the warmth of the sunlight.  Breathe out, releasing your legs from your arms, soles of feet to the ground.
  • Breathe in the warmth of the sunlight.  Breathe out, feeling your arms melt into the ground. 
  • Breathe in the warmth of the sunlight.  Breathe out, melting one leg to the ground. 
  • Breathe in the warmth of the sunlight.  Breathe out, melting the other leg to the ground. 
  • Finish with three more melting breaths.  Breathe in the warmth of the sunlight.  Breathe out, feeling your whole body melting into the ground.
